i've been informed by an unnamed source that i write too many serious blogs. i'm sorry. but it is kind of hard to show my sense of humor through words, seeing how my sense of humor has everything to do with facial expressions. so you'll just have to use your imagination on this one :)
at school, every Wednesday is work day. we start out with a huge delicious breakfast full of wonderful carbs, and then we get to enjoy a half hour of staff testimonies. by then it is about 8:30 in the morning (and we are already tired) - but it is time to head out to our work assignments.
for most of the year I am been assigned to the laundry crew - which is one of the most coveted jobs :) we get to take the school van over into Duncan, where we spend the majority of the day. we have about 100 sheets to scrub, wash, and fold. it is actually quite a busy job (and kind of a gross one at times) now . . . for those of you who know anything about Duncan - it's not exactly a happening place. well, that is . . . unless you're at the local laundromat. i have encountered some really interesting people there . . . and had some really interesting conversations. i thought I'd share a couple moments with you :)
- my first time at the laundromat : we haul all our stuff into the laundromat and start sorting them. there was a sinister looking man who was lurking around in the shadows . . . but i mean, come on - we're bible school students, so of course we strike up a conversation with him about what we are doing this year at school. he gave the usual polite nods, while doing the shifty eye thing . . . and then he left. meh, you can't win them all. BUT he didn't just leave . . . he left with all our money. that's right. we were so busy evangelizing that we forgot to protect the goods, and he somehow managed to swipe it right from under our noses. so . . . the cops came, and we told our story - but really, what can they do? we just looked ridiculous. thankfully, the women who own the laundromat were kind enough to give us enough money to finish the job . . . and we now know to keep our money on our person at all times and not to get too friendly with the boys:)
-another adventure . . . this time, it was the boys being too friendly with us. there were a couple of guys, who looked to be washing all their construction gear or something, in their 30's maybe. they chatted with us for a little bit, complained about the costs, complained about how they wish they had wives to do their laundry and yadayada. we just kept working away, this time putting in our polite nods. THEN, they start calling to get our attention, and purposely talking to us while they are folding all their unmentionables. i mean REALLY obviously. and to make matters worse . . . i get embarrassed pretty easily, and they thought that was pretty funny so they did it all the more. yeesh - there's just no shame these days. that was laundromat flirting to the extreme. they really get creative. the lesson of this one is . . . stay away from boys in the laundromat.
. . . well that is just a little taste of my adventures in Duncan . . . it really is quite an interesting little place :)
sadly, I am done with the laundry runs now and I am working on painting a mural for the youth retreat coming up at the end of the month. (that has its adventures in its own . . . a whole can of spilt paint last time. oops. at least it wasn't me :D)
